Vulcan's Forge - Part 1
Bumi Hills, Zimbabwe
180 Million BCE, Early Jurassic
At this precarious time in Earth's history, life is still recovering from a devastating mass extinction event. A portion of the early dinosaurs are gone, as well as all of the mammal-like reptiles. In most corners of the globe, the chaos has subsided, but the continent of Africa is still a disaster zone. Frequent volcanic activity has rendered the southern half a desert. It's a wasteland where few, even of the carnivores, survive.
The situation is only getting worse for this lone Vulcanodon. A basalt eruption has separated him from his herd. He became hopelessly lost and, in a state of panic, wandered into the lava flows nearby. He doesn't know it, but eons later, this placement of his fossils will earn him his species' name. The holotype specimen was found with several unique features, including his strong forearms, large head, and sharp teeth...
...but this beast was an herbivore...
