Edge of Shadow

This was just supposed to be an experiment with a human. But, of course, there has to be a story behind it.

Erica was walking through the park. It was a quiet night, the type that she could think in. She was having a rough day that day, and she needed to get away from it all. In the middle of it, she comes across something peculiar- a giant pit that wasn't there before. In the middle of it is a very bright light source. What is it? Where did it come from? Does it have something to do with her?...
This isn't necessarily classified as science fiction or fantasy as I have no idea what's in the pit.
